I come from a background in research, having graduated from UQ with a Bachelor of Science (Majoring in Genetics and Microbiology) and Honours Degree (Class 1) in Developmental Bioscience. I worked for some time as a research assistant in a couple of labs studying self-renewal of stem cells and assaying hormone levels in cattle serum samples. While I did enjoy aspects of the work, it didn’t align with my natural talents.
I made the decision to switch fields and studied game development at JMC from 2017 to 2020. I graduated with an excellent GPA and the game developed as part of my major project won first place at the university’s Martini Awards. I am continuing to develop the game with fellow graduates and the publishing company GameSage.
The Bachelor of Arts was a generalist degree that familiarized me with all game development pipeline steps: Encompassing concept art, 3D modeling (hard surface in Maya and sculpting in Zbrush), retopologizing, uv unwrapping, rigging, skinning, 3D animation, game design, vfx, and assembling games inside the Unity engine using C# code. I am also self-taught in texturing using Substance Painter.
While I enjoy all aspects of game creation, I have chosen to specialize in modeling and texturing. I have continued to develop my skills through practice and online courses as well as build my portfolio. Examples of my work can be viewed on https://www.artstation.com/jessfittock.
My dream role is working within a game studio art department where I can learn from more senior staff and see my work come to life in game characters or environments. While I endeavor to land a permanent position, I have been taking on freelance assignments. I strive not only to meet clients briefs, but design with the end application in mind to ensure top performance downstream. I am currently open to work. Feel free to contact me about any opportunities.
